Partnering with SBI Life

Action Against Hunger partnered with SBI Life Insurance to jointly implement a sustainable and cost effective program on the First 1000 days of Life in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh and Baran, Rajasthan.

The first 1000 days of a child’s life (from pregnancy until their second birthday) have a profound impact on the ability to grow, learn and thrive – and a lasting effect on a community’s health and prosperity. This, therefore is a unique window of opportunity for long-term healthy development of a child.

According to NFHS 4 data, the percentage of underweight children in Dhar and Baran stands at 42% and 41% respectively. This project will focus on reducing the prevalence of undernutrition, ensure healthy pregnancies, healthy deliveries and optimum early child care.

The 1000 days project aims to achieve this by working with adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women and children up to 5 years of age. They will be supported through government and social platforms. Planned interventions are focused towards improving awareness and access to:

  • Maternal care services (health and nutrition services including ANC, PNC and obstetric care)

  • Neonatal care services (healthcare and IYCF) and

  • Timely diagnosis and treatment of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM)

  • Community participation as a cornerstone

145 villages in Dhar and 283 villages in Baran will be covered in the program while the total reach for the two geographies combined is expected to be 3,91,000.
