Stakeholders’ Consultation on Nutrition, Mumbai

Smt. Vinita Ved Shingal, Principal Secretary- Women and Child Development and Director General-RJCH & Nutrition Mission Maharashtra addresses the participants about different policies and programmes along with the government schemes of the state to curb malnutrition in Maharashtra during the consultation.

Nutrition goes beyond food, and addressing stunting, wasting in children.

It necessitates a multi-sectorial approach, encompassing many other aspects like maternal health, basic healthcare, education, gender empowerment and sanitation. Malnutrition corrodes the economy and the future generations. Ambitions for sustainable development are unlikely to be fulfilled due to the presence of malnutrition.

A consultation was organized on 13th October 2017 in Mumbai with a view to including all relevant stakeholders who could spearhead the nutrition agenda in the country.

Shri. Naveen Jain, Secretary-Health and Mission Director-National Health Mission, Government of Rajasthan, addresses the audience via Video-Conference during the consultation.

The objectives of the workshop were:

  • Knowledge dissemination on different aspects of nutrition,
  • Discuss nutrition security policies & programmes in India,
  • Share the learning’s and model of CMAM pilot initiative (POSHAN) launched by the NHM
  • Sharing of experiences from other Indian states (i.e. Maharashtra; Madhya Pradesh; Odisha, Chhattisgarh) towards addressing malnutrition respectively

There were members of the decision-making body from the state government of Maharashtra and Rajasthan, eminent and influential experts on nutrition from national and international NGOs and CBO(s), various government departments, representatives from the media, individual consultants and donors.
